John Cannavo joined Slochowsky & Slochowsky, LLP in 2017 as a Senior Associate. He is a graduate of Brooklyn Law School, having earned his Juris Doctor degree in 1984. He was admitted to the Second Judicial Department in 1985 and to the United States Eastern and Southern District Courts.

John was counsel in the Litigation Division of the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development from 1989 to 1996, where he handled numerous hearings and other related matters concerning HPD building code enforcement.

Thereafter, he joined the New York City Housing Authority from 1996 to 2015 and retired as the Chief of the Landlord-Tenant Division.

John’s practice areas include residential and commercial nonpayment and holdover proceedings, DHPD proceedings, as well as Supreme Court litigation.
